Welcome to the Diabetic Eye Center
The mission of the Diabetic Eye Center at Mecklenburg Eye Associates is to provide personalized comprehensive eye care of the highest quality to our patients with diabetes. This care includes everything from eyeglasses, contact lenses and preventive care to the most sophisticated diagnostic testing, laser treatments and micro-surgery. Properly timed minimally invasive cataract surgery after optimal control of retinopathy, customized spectacles and sunglasses and low vision rehabilitation are some of the other special services diabetic patients can benefit from. Our goal is to help our patients make the most of their vision potential and maintain it.
All care at the Diabetic Eye Center is provided by board certified ophthalmologists (Eye MD's). Our medical director, James J. Bedrick, MD, is a fellowship-trained specialist in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Emory University School of Medicine. He has authored the chapter on Diabetic Retinopathy in the major medical text Diabetes Mellitus as well as numerous scientific papers and lectures. Dr. Bedrick provides state of the art treatments for diabetic retinopathy with medication, laser and vitreous surgery and cataract surgery. Dr. Bedrick is joined in the Diabetic Eye Center by Comprehensive Ophthalmologists Charles A. Blotnick, MD, and Daniel J. Simon, MD, both of whom have a special interest and training in the care of diabetic eye disease. They provide excellent eye care for diabetics including cataract and glaucoma treatment and surgery. At the Diabetic Eye Center, we endeavor to provide one facility where the diabetic patient receives the highest quality of eye care in the manner most efficient to them, in terms of minimizing time away from work and avoiding duplicative visits. We offer 3 convenient locations to serve you. Examination services and vitreo-retinal consultation are available at all 3 offices along with full service optical dispensaries. Special testing and laser treatments are available at our Randolph Road and Rock Hill locations. Vitreo-Retinal Surgery is performed by Dr. Bedrick at the Presbyterian Hospital Eye Center in Charlotte. We view each patient-doctor relationship as a special one. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are happy to discuss your eye concerns with you at any time, and appreciate the confidence you have given us by entrusting your eyes to our care.
